The SUNY Maritime Academic Center will be the venue this year

The JSA of LIS All Instructor Symposium will be held Saturday, June 21, 8:30-3:00 pm at SUNY Maritime College, Throggs Neck, Bronx NY.

When you view the agenda, you will see presentations and demonstrations on a variety of topics that are suitable for different experience levels and assigned roles. You may suggest your instructors attend the sessions that seem most appropriate for each of them.

A few seats are still available, so you may register your group through Friday June 20, while seats remain.

This symposium offers a valuable opportunity for your instructors, head instructors, and program leaders to connect with peers from across all JSA programs. Through sessions led by experienced coaches, sailors, and educators, they’ll strengthen their skills, share best practices, and bring back fresh ideas that can take your sailing program to the next level.

The featured keynote speaker is Coach Reed Maltbie, past executive director at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association, TedX speaker, highly sought-after performance coach, regularly-featured US Sailing conference keynote speaker, and author of the international bestseller “The Spartan Mindset.”

Other notable presenters include:

  • Daniel Escudero (2024 ILCA championships, Olympic Development Team)
  • Jeanne Walker Sinclair (US Sailing Master Instructor who personally certified over 900 instructors)
  • Tino Galan (Internationally renowned Optimist and Club 420 coach)
  • Blair Overman (formerly at YMCA Camp Seagull, serving hundreds of youth sailors weekly)

Presentations by experts enhance the knowledge of instructors

as well as local JSA Head Instructors, Coaches and Sailing Directors.

Some featured session topics are:
– The Art of Situational Leadership: Knowing How to Step up When Called to Lead
– Adventure Sailing – You’ve Been Doing It All Wrong
– Five Things That Level 1 Didn’t Teach You That You Should Know
– Assessing Sailors – Teaching What They Need
– More Than a Job: How Sailing Instruction Sharpens Your Professional Edge
as well as hands-on clinics and demos.

This is a chance for your team to engage in active learning with peers and leaders, ask questions and walk away with tools they can use right away.
