Join The Race Committee Team

The US Sailing Basic Race Management Seminar at Manhasset Bay YC on Saturday, July 24 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm is your opportunity to join the race committee team at your home club.

Register through the US Sailing website for this seminar that will be led by Cynthia Parthemos, who chairs US Sailing’s Area Race Officer Group. Cynthia has extensive experience running top-notch regattas throughout the country and she also has an exceptional ability to share her wisdom in a way that is easy to understand.

According to Clemmie Everett, who was primary race officer at JSA’s 2025 Optimist Champs hosted at American YC, “By attending the Basic Race Officer Course, we can learn best practices that will help to be more efficient and effective when running events. Every minute that you spend either learning about race management or serving as a volunteer makes you a better competitor when it’s your turn to hit the racecourse.”

The Long Island Sound region needs more volunteers who understand the race officer seminar topics, like Race Committee objectives and responsibilities, regatta safety, writing sailing instructions, RC roles, equipment, setting the course, starting system, starting penalties, before the start, during the race, finishing and scoring.
