JSA Event Management Workshop 2021
The annual JSA of LIS Event Management Workshop for junior regatta hosts is scheduled for Tuesday evening, May 18, from 7 – 9:15 pm via Zoom. Regatta chairs, race officers, regatta committee members/volunteers, sailing and program directors are all welcome. Each club that plans to host a regatta this summer (or thinking of hosting one in the future) will benefit from having its representative(s) attend. Each person may pre-register in advance for free on Zoom through this link.
This year’s workshop will feature a special one hour presentation by Dave Perry, who will discuss changes in the 2021-2024 Racing Rules of Sailing that impact event management and race officials, from the start to the finish, and the protests that follow. Dave is well known for his enthusiastic and engaging teaching style, as well as highly respected for his deep knowledge of the rules for our sport.
During the first hour of the workshop, we’ll review the JSA templates for the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions that were updated for the racing rule changes; review the JSA event calendar to firm up the regatta schedule; learn how youth regattas can become Clean Regattas; and have open discussion about how event hosts may adjust their regatta formats to the rapidly changing guidance about COVID-19.
JSA Event Management Workshop 2020
Regatta support teams at JSA of LIS clubs hosting regattas were invited to learn about new topics and share information at the workshop. In past years, this event has been held on site at Larchmont YC, but in 2020 we had a virtual online meeting instead. The online discussion June 15 may be viewed here.
In addition, a preliminary discussion was held via teleconference in late February, which is summarized here. However, that was a pre-pandemic discussion so many of those topics will be carried over into 2021.
