Rules and Conditions for the JSA of LIS Qualifying events for the Chubb US SAILING Junior Sailing Championships

A. The US Sailing Area B Semi-Finals are open events. The winners of the Area Semi-Finals compete at the National Finals of the Chubb US Sailing Junior Sailing Championships. These National Finals include three series: the Sears Trophy, sailed in 3 or 4-person boats; the Bemis Trophy, sailed in double-handed boats; and the Smythe Trophy, sailed in single-handed boats.

B. The conduct of the National Finals and the Area Semi-Finals is governed by documents published by the United States Sailing Association.

C. In place of the regional association quarter-finals that are no longer held, JSA supervises the conduct of the events intended to select on behalf of the YRA of Long Island Sound region the sailors to be sponsored by the JSA for their Area B entry fees.. The Rules for All JSA Events shall apply to these events.

D. All competitors who represent the YRA of Long Island Sound in the Area B Championships shall comply with the eligibility requirements listed in the Area B Notice of Race.

E. The top two finishers of both the Club 420 and Laser Radial classes at the Law Trophy Regatta and the top finishing team at the Sears Cup YRA LIS Region Qualifier regatta, who are Junior Sailing Members of the JSA and members of a sailing program located in the geographic area represented by the YRA of LIS, each qualify to be sponsored by the JSA at the Area B Championship..

F. Any sailor or team who advances to the Area B Championship as a JSA-sponsored sailor or team must commit to the entire U.S. Junior Sailing Championships series and be available to compete at the US National Championship if successful at the Area B Championship. Sailors must make their commitments known to the Chairperson of the JSA Board of Directors within 24 hours of the awards ceremony of the Law Trophy (Bemis and Smythe Trophy contenders) or the Sears Cup YRA LIS Region Qualifier. If a sailor or team who qualifies does not go to the Area B Championship for any reason, the next finisher in the series may go as a JSA-sponsored sailor or team, and so on.

G. Entry fees for the Area B Championship for all JSA-sponsored sailors or teams who compete in the Area B Championship will be paid by the JSA following completion of the Area B Championship.
