Enhance Sailing Programs with a Certified Powerboat Instructor at Your Club
US Powerboating and the JSA of LIS are planning a three-day Powerboat Instructor certification course to be offered during early November in the western Long Island Sound region. The exact dates and location for the course will depend on the availability of people who are interested in this training opportunity.
Think about how your club could benefit by having a waterfront staff person or a volunteer club member trained as a certified powerboat instructor. Your club’s own powerboat instructor would then be available to give Safe Powerboat Handling courses on site to students, who may be:
- teenage sailors and their parents
- summer sailing program instructors
- waterfront staff
- race committee support volunteers
Proposed Dates and Location: November 3-5, Friday-Sunday, is available at SUNY Maritime, Bronx NY. If that is not suitable for some people, other dates and locations may be found to match availability of your club’s Powerboat Instructor students. As example, another date being considered is November 13-15 at a yacht club site in Westchester County NY.
Registration and Course Details: Registration for the SUNY course Nov 3-5 may be made online at http://bit.ly/PowerBoatInstructor (deadline 4pm October 25). Information about the Powerboat Instructor course topics, prerequisites and cost may be read at that same link.
Alternate Dates: Please also email the JSA office info@jsalis.org to advise who at your club may be available for this Powerboat Instructor course (names, contact info and their available or preferred dates). JSA will then work with them and with US Powerboating to organize another course during weekdays.
