Two Former Coaches at JSA of LIS McIntyre Team Race are now at Stanford University
JSA’s Malcom McIntyre Team Race clinigatta at SUNY Maritime College offers youth team racing instruction for the novice and stiff competition for the experienced sailors. In order to pull off this full spectrum experience, coaching is key. Brian Clancy, head sailing coach of Cornell who runs the regatta, recommends hiring only the best. Proof of that is two of the recently hired coaches at Stanford University are McIntyre coach alumni – Brian Swingley and Chris Klevan.
Stanford University recently announced that they are taking on two new staff members. Chris Klevan is joining the coaching team and has a great history of success in his past. He has also worked under Brian Swingly, who will be joining the team as well. This dynamic duo have helped win many races big and small, including the 2016 Sperry Women’s National Title.
Aside from working with Swingly, Klevan has been around the block in the sailing world. After attending Hobart and William Smith Colleges and sailing all four years, he also worked as an assistant at George Washington University. Klevan has definitely worked his way up and is ready to start this new journey at Stanford. He even claimed “I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to work with Stanford University,” so it should be pretty great to get that new start.
Along with Klevan, Brian Swingly is also joining the Stanford team and will be the new head coach of sailing. After 13 years with the Coast Guard sailing team, Swingly is taking on a new step in his sailing career. Swingly has years of sailing chops and coaching under his belt, along with working with Chris Klevan. It looks like the two will be a great addition to Stanford Sailing as a whole.
