Area B Bemis and Smythe Selection and Registration for YRA of LIS Region

NEW PROCEDURES FOR 2014

The Area B Qualifier for the U.S. Junior Doublehanded and Singlehanded Championships for the Bemis and Smythe trophies will be held on July 10 in Mystic, Conn., with a mandatory clinic for the singlehanded competitors on July 9. The early registration deadline is July 3; late registration is July 7.

As an incentive to participate in this Area B event, the top two singlehanded and doublehanded winners will earn early acceptance to the 2015 U.S. Youth Championship, in Marblehead, Mass., which will be the ISAF Youth Worlds Qualifier.

2013gonzalesclinic_1_-copy– For the Area B Club 420s, the event is open to any doublehanded competitor who brings their own boat and meets the other eligibility criteria for the event. They may apply now athttp://www.regattanetwork.com/event/8544 .

ByteC2_4-copy– For the Area B singlehanded sailors, Zim Sailing will provide a coach and 20 chartered Byte CII boats. The Laser Radial will not be sailed in this event. Each Regional Sailing Association will have some chartered Byte CII boats reserved: Section 5.1 of the NOR reads, “In the Singlehanded Division only: Four charter boats are held for each RSA until July 2nd. After that, any remaining boats will be released to Area B residents on a first come, first serve basis.”To assure a priority position in line, JSA recommends singlehanded sailors apply now here. If some singlehanded sailors are able to provide their own Byte CIIs, they are encouraged to register as an open entry.

a) The top two finishers in the Laser Radial class at the Law Trophy Regatta, who are members of a sailing club located in the geographic area represented by the YRA of LIS, qualify to be sponsored by the JSA of LIS at the Area B Qualifier if they commit to the entire championship series, including the National Finals if successful at the Area B Qualifier. They will also be offered two of the reserved Byte CIIs.

b) The remaining two reserved Byte CIIs will be offered to members of a sailing club located in the geographic area represented by the YRA of LIS based on a resume received by 11:59 PM Tuesday July 1. Preference will be given to those who are able to commit to the entire championship series. Please write and submit your own resume and send by fax 914-407-1540 or by email info@jsalis.org . Do not use postal or hand delivery. Reserved Bytes remaining after the resume review may be allocated at the discretion of the JSA of LIS. [Note: This method permits outstanding sailors to represent the YRALIS region, even if they did not sail in the Law regatta or are not JSA of LIS program members.]

c) After July 2, the remaining chartered Byte CIIs will be released by US Sailing to Area B residents on a first come, first serve basis.
