Douglaston Yacht Squadron Opti Regatta
Douglaston Yacht Squadron held the Area A Optimist Regatta in Little Neck, New York area on Wednesday, July 22. 62 sailors competed, including ten in Red Fleet, 32 in Blue Fleet and 21 in White Fleet. Wind averaged 14 miles per hour, with gusts up to 29 mph. Northwest winds blew throughout the day, and Race Committee ran five races.
Port Washington Yacht Club Opti Sailors waited for harbor start on DYS beach. The unsheltered beach in 15 to 20 mph northwest breeze made for a challenging beach launch. Five races took place in some of the biggest breeze of the JSA season thus far.
Area A regatta clubs competed, including Centerport Yacht Club (CYC), Douglaston Yacht Squadron (DYS), Waterfront Center (WFC), Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club (CSH), Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club (SEAW), Port Washington Yacht Club (PWYC), Sea Cliff Yacht Club (SCLF), Manhasset Bay Yacht Club (MBYC), Shelter Island Yacht Club (SIYC), Northport Yacht Club (NORP) and Hempstead Harbour Club (HEM).
