Oakcliff Sailing Presents Two Keelboat Opportunities for Junior Sailors
The JSA of LIS and Oakcliff Sailing Center have developed opportunities for junior sailors to get early season training and experience in keelboats on Long Island Sound during April 2024:
There are two opportunities on Saturdays and Sundays in April:
– [Note: the April 20-21 event has been cancelled, but the April 27-28 event remains active] April 20-21: Keelboat Fleet Racing Clinic – an immersive dive into keelboat racing for every level of JSA Sailor. With Oakcliff’s fleet of eight Match 40 race boats, teams of 5-6 will learn what it takes to race as a team on a 40ft racing boat.
– April 27-28: Training for American YC Spring Series – practice maneuvers and boat handling in Farr 40s in preparation for the AYC Spring Series regatta scheduled the following weekend, May 3-5. Teams of 10 or 11 will learn what it takes to race as a team on one of Oakcliff’s Farr 40 racing boats.
Partnered with the JSA of LIS, Oakcliff will host both events at its site in Oyster Bay NY and provide housing, food, coaching, and of course the racing boats. The first day will be focused on boat handling and boat speed, followed by a team BBQ. Day two will incorporate and build on existing fleet racing knowledge and return to the water for a full day of racing.
Junior sailors can arrive by 0800 on Saturday or after 1700 on Friday and stay in the Oakcliff Bunkhouse for free. Both nights are included in the admission fee of $450 per person.
