Exchange junior sailing program management ideas at the JSA of LIS Midwinter Meeting on Saturday March 4 at the Beach Point Club, 900 Rushmore Ave, Mamaroneck NY.

The final agenda may be viewed through this link.

You can help JSA get a confirmed headcount for our host club by registering at this link for in person participation or pre-register at this link for Zoom.

The meeting from 0845 to 1230 is free to all who register in advance (doors open at 0815 with coffee/tea and bagels/pastries). Then stay for the optional lunch after the meeting (prepaid lunch: $30 for representatives of JSA member programs or $45 for non-JSA attendees).

Topics: a short introduction about JSA business and the summer event schedule will be followed by junior sailing program presentations in the morning, such as:

  • What Can Yacht Club Programs Learn from community sailing center programming? George Ellis, The WaterFront Center; Henry Millette, Indian Harbor Y.C.; and MacKenzie McGuckin, Youth Sailing Fdn. of The Palm Beaches, will share their experiences.
  • Keynote: Applying Values Based Education to sailing programs: Chris Childers from US Sailing will describe how the Siebel Sailors Program developed a values-based-sailing program on a national scale that may also be applied to yacht club programming.
  • New Programming Ideas from the recent US Sailing Leadership Forum will be described by participants who attended the SLF.

Stay for the informal lunch after the morning sessions to share your own programming ideas with other junior sailing leaders, and think outside the box about how to engage sailors beyond dinghies to other forms of sailing.

An important benefit of coming to this meeting is the people you will rub shoulders with during breaks, or find yourself sitting next to during the lunch that follows the meeting. Club representatives are all welcome, including Officers, Junior Program Representatives, Chairs, Sailing Committees, Program/Sailing Directors, and Head Instructors.

If you are an experienced program leader, bring along a new member from your junior committee or an enthusiastic parent volunteer to spread knowledge within your club’s junior program leadership.

Please encourage each participant or your group leader to pre-register online at this link.
