JSA of LIS Match Race Clinic 2025
The JSA of LIS and Pequot Yacht Club have organized a match racing clinic for June 20-22, 2025.
Coached by Pearson Potts, five-time US Match Racing champion, and Dave Perry, also five-time US Match Racing champion and two-time Congressional Cup winner, you can’t ask for a better introduction to match racing. They are not only great match racers, but great coaches who have fun.
We’ll start with pizza and chalk talk on Friday evening, June 20, then be on the water Saturday and Sunday, June 21-22. Match racing is best in keel boats with spinnakers and Pequot YC will provide eight Ideal 18s from its fleet.
Teams of three in each boat. Sign-up individually, but come as a team. We’ll prioritize one team per Junior Program, then open it up to more teams per Program if space is available. Skippers must be 14 years old, and one skipper may be designated or others may rotate. Crews can be any age. The event is limited to 24 sailors (8 teams of 3 sailors) and teams do not need to provide a coach. Registration at this link is now available.
Match racing is a great game, and we plan on having a JSA LIS Match Racing Championship next year. Yet, the skills are highly applicable to fleet racing too. When you’re leading the series and the second place boat gets on your transom before the last race, are you ready? When the Sears Cup comes down to two boats, will you be able to form a cohesive attack plan? Needless to say, this is a great primer for teams heading to the US Sailing Sears Cup or contending for any championship.
