2026 JSA LIS McIntyre Team Race

The 2026 Malcolm McIntyre Trophy Team Race championship will be a two-day event held on the weekend of August 1-2, for up to ten teams of six persons from JSA of LIS programs sailing doublehanded boats provided by the US Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), at Kings Point NY.

This classic Junior Team Race Championship has a long history, dating back to 1943. It provides an excellent opportunity for club juniors to team up and compete in a fun environment, while developing special team racing skills! It is a perfect primer for juniors who team race at their home club, at their high school, or who plan to sail in college.

This year we have a super team of college coaches and umpires lined up to give our junior sailors the best possible team racing experience, including Henry Millette, the USMMA Dinghy Team Head Coach, and Brendan Feeney, the Fordham University Head Coach. We are also bringing back Tony Weiner as PRO, and TJ Danilek and Elle Sykes as head umpires for the event.

If your club has enough sailors for more than one team, you may be able register multiple six-person teams. Or, if your club does not have six sailors for a team, you may combine sailors from your club and another club to form one team.

If you want to compete in the McIntyre Team Race championship, talk with your head instructor and have your team registered through your junior sailing office! Or send an email to the JSA office info@jsalis.org to see if we can help place you in a combined team of six sailors from various clubs.

Be sure to register by the initial deadline on July 26 to assure a spot for your team. Between July 27 and July 30, additional entries may be accepted, including multiple teams from a single club.

We look forward to seeing you all at USMMA!
