One of the JSA of LIS Special Awards celebrates the spirit of Brooke E. Gonzalez, who was admired among her peers for her enthusiasm for the sport of sailing. She epitomized the qualities of sportsmanship, ethics and compassion, while sailing aggressively in the world's top ranks. By her superb example, she helped develop these qualities in others. These attributes led her to be commodore of the Junior American Yacht Club and a leading force of the US International 420 Sailing Team, for which she competed in two world championships. Brooke's friends collaborated to create an award to keep her memory alive. <br />
