Program Dir. and Race Coaches & Instructors for Opti and 420
Darien Junior Sailing Team (DJST) is hiring experienced sailing coaches for the 2015 season. DJST is a program entirely focused on Junior Sailing in both Optimist and C420 classes, with over 125 sailors registered in the program. Our regatta teams participate in all JSA sanctioned races and our C420 program is positioned as a feeder to High School Varsity Sailing Teams. We own and maintain 25 Optimists, 6 Club 420’s and 5 coach boats. We are looking for college age instructors (18+) with minimum US Sailing Level 1 or 2 certifications. In addition a state certified power boat safety certificate and power boat experience is required. Salary is competitive.
– Program Director/Head Instructor: This position will serve as the point person in coordinating the program’s day-to-day activities throughout the season. Included will be the managerial responsibility of overseeing the instructors and their respective duties, as well as implementing the curriculum. This position will also handle specific administrative duties related to the coaches and sailors, including but not limited to payroll submission and regatta participant registration. Position is full time, commencing with Opening Day activities and continuing through the close of the season. US Sailing Level 1, 2 & 3 (or equivalent) is required.
– Optimist Instructors: The ideal candidate should have extensive junior sailing and regatta experience as well as prior instructor experience at the junior level. The candidate should be mature and able to communicate well with adults and children.
– Optimist Racing Coach: The ideal candidate will have extensive junior sailing and coaching experience and demonstrated accomplishments in racing. Familiarity with the coastline and motor boating experience is a must. Candidate should be mature and able to communicate easily with adults and children.
-Club 420 Instructors: The ideal candidate will have multiple years of experience in junior sailing and demonstrated accomplishments in 420 racing. College level sailing is desirable but not required. We seek a self motivated and highly organized individual willing to further an established curriculum.
