“Send it” for Jim Hahn

Jim Hahn – sailor, husband, JSA of LIS Opti-dad, Ronstan NE Territory Manager – suffered a catastrophic skiing accident in February, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Following spine stabilizing surgery, Jim is recovering at an acute rehabilitation hospital, where he is undergoing occupational and physical therapy, and adapting to his new wheeled reality.

Jim is known around Long Island Sound as the energetic and animated Opti-Dad of JSA sailor Nick of American Yacht Club. Jim, the Northeast Territory Manager for Ronstan, has been instrumental in reinvigorating the JSA Marlinspike Contest with his generous donations of Ronstan line. If you’ve been at a JSA event over the past two years, you have certainly witnessed Jim’s infectious energy first-hand and heard his catch-phrase “Send it!”

The Hahns’ positive outlook and no-holds-barred determination is infectious and has put an extended community into motion to ensure that Jim can return to his life as the well-known energetic Ronstan rep, the sailor with a wealth of nautical knowledge and jokes, the consummate cheerleader for his family – his wife, Alix (two-time International Women’s Keelboat champion) and his son, Nick, an up-and-coming JSA Optimist sailor).

The Hahns’ course has been changed forever. Each day brings the harsh reality of the expenses that come with living with a spinal cord injury, much of which insurance does not cover. In order to help the Hahns navigate this great burden of expense and allow them to focus on healing and moving forward, a GoFundMe “Send it for Jim Hahn” has been created http://gofundme.com/jimhahn. Already family, friends, and the sailing community have rallied to raise just under the $175,000 goal and we hope to go well beyond the goal to set up a sustainable fund for Jim and his family. Thank you for considering a gift of any amount, knowing that you are putting Jim, his wife Alix, and son Nick back in motion.
