JSA of LIS Head Instructor Workshop, June 16

Head instructors and junior program directors are invited to attend this workshop designed specifically for them. Program chairs are also welcome, along with those on the path to becoming a head instructor or program director.

We will focus on getting both returning head instructors and new head instructors up to speed. Additionally, we hope to provide the tools necessary to plan orientation week, create a positive and productive culture among staff, communicate with parents and keep the summer fun for all.

Our experts will include:
– Kevin Broome: Sailing Director at American YC & member of US Sailing’s National Training Faculty
– Jeff Engborg: General Manager at Pequot Yacht Club
– Nicky Souter: Sailing Director at Riverside Yacht Club
– Brendan Healy: Sailing Director at Indian Harbor Yacht Club

Topics will include the following:
-Nuts & bolts of success – Top 15 things you need to know.
-Staying current in the changing world of youth sailing
-Pooling resources and networking: what we can do for one another this summer
-Yacht club strategic synergy starts with you
-What are the top 10 additional things required to run a successful program?
-What I wish I’d known in my first year as head instructor
-Boss not peer: How to discuss the difficult topics with your staff
-Demand the highest standards from your instructors
-Dealing with difficult parents
-The Instructor Profile: instructor dynamics, tips & tricks
-Managing conflict and cliques in the staff and in the sailor groups
