Rules and Conditions for the JSA of LIS Qualifying events for the Chubb US SAILING Junior Sailing Championships

A. The Area Semi-Finals are open events. The winners of the Area Semi-Finals compete at the National Finals of the Chubb US SAILING Junior Sailing Championships. These National Finals include three series: the Sears Cup, sailed in 3 or 4-person boats; the Bemis Trophy, sailed in double-handed boats; and the Smythe Trophy, sailed in single-handed boats.

B. The conduct of the National Finals and the Area Semi-Finals is governed by three documents published by the United States Sailing Association: Conditions, Notice of Race and Championship Sailing Instructions.

C. In place of the Association Quarter-finals that are no longer held, JSA supervises the conduct of the qualifying events intended to select on behalf of the YRA of Long Island Sound the sailors to be sponsored by the JSA.. The Rules for All JSA Events shall apply to these events In addition, there will be a jury of at least three Judges appointed by the Chair of the JSA Board of Directors. Only one of the judges may be from the club hosting the event.

D. All members of each entering team at the qualifying events shall meet the eligibility criteria described in the conditions attached to the Notice of Race for the US SAILING Junior Sailing Championships.

E. The Law Trophy Regatta, which is for Club 420s, Lasers and Laser Radials, also serves as the JSA-sponsored sailor selection event for the Bemis and Smythe Trophies. Skippers eligible to participate in the Law Trophy Regatta are those JSA Junior Sailor Members who finished in the top 40% at specific JSA scheduled events for Lasers, Laser Radials and Club 420s during the previous year (see JSA Rule15.4), or sailed in the Area B Semi-Finals in the previous year, or were invited to sail in the US Sailing Youth Sailing Championships in the current year. Additional competitors, who submit resumes by June 15th, may be approved by the Chair of the JSA Board of Directors. The YRA LIS Sears Regatta serves as the JSA-sponsored sailor selection event for the Sears Trophy.

F. The top two finishers of both the Club 420 and Laser Radial classes at the Law Trophy Regatta and the top finisher at the Sears Cup Association Finals, who are members of a sailing club located in the geographic area represented by the YRA of LIS, qualify to be sponsored by the JSA at the Area B semi-finals.

G. Any sailor or team who advances to the Area B semi-finals as a JSA-sponsored sailor or team must commit to the entire series and be available to compete at the National Finals if successful. Sailors must make their commitments known to the Chair of the JSA Board of Directors within 24 hours of the awards ceremony of the Law Trophy (Bemis and Smythe Trophy contenders) or the qualifying event for the Sears Cup. If a sailor or team who qualifies does not go to the Area B semi-finals for any reason, the next finisher in the series may go as a JSA-sponsored sailor or team and so on.

H. Entry fees for the Area B semi-finals for all JSA-sponsored sailors or teams who compete in the Area B semi-finals will be paid by the JSA.
